This exciting partnership between a local business owner and Silver City MainStreet will result in an improved streetscape, public art display, and a public parklet for events and daily use. The streetscape improvements include slope stabilization, low-water use plantings and improved pedestrian access, and were completed in 2018, thanks to a New Mexico Resiliency Alliance grant and community provided donations. Polaris Parklet transforms the corner of Pinos Altos Rd. and Broadway Street into a place to relax, eat lunch, and enjoy a public art piece focused on the north star.
The parklet includes water harvesting from the autobody shop roof, flexible seating, and a paving inlay of the big dipper constellation. Across the street from the Silver City Museum, the parklet will further support MainStreet and other community street events that pair with Museum activities.
