Lovington MainStreet and the City of Lovington are developing plans for a new Library Parklet and targeted improvements to Fran Atchley Plaza. The Library Parklet design includes a large turf area, stock tank seating, picnic tables, a shade pergola and in-ground games – all tailored to support youth reading outdoors and library educational programming. Improvements to Fran Atchley Plaza include additional seating, plantings, painted games and a memorial fountain to replace the current Fran Atchley memorial signage.
A painted “trail” referencing children’s stories is proposed to provide a strong visual connection and wayfinding between the two parks. The Lovington MainStreet board engaged a local artist to develop recommendations and cost estimates for the murals and painted games. The creation of the parklet and improvements to Fran Atchley provide an important network of open space adjacent to the popular Lea Theater and the Courthouse in the heart of downtown.
