As we approach the one-year mark of living and working through a major health crisis, there is hope that we will soon be on the other side of these strange times. After the monumental efforts of the MainStreet and Arts & Cultural District programs throughout New Mexico over the last year to assist their businesses and communities in weathering the pandemic, now is the time to begin focusing on “what’s next” for our districts.
How do we “create a climate of confidence” in ourselves, our organizations, our districts, and our business community as we move beyond the pandemic and into recovery and reopening? NMMS seeks to address this question over its two-day virtual winter conference through a series of presentations, workshops, activities, and fun, featuring speakers and presenters from New Mexico and across the country.
Friday, March 5: The first day of the conference will feature a keynote address from Mary Means, best known for leading the team that created the National Main Street Center. This will be followed by sessions focused on:
- Helping MS/ACD staff and volunteers build confidence in themselves and handle the stress brought on by the pandemic and the work in general.
- Lunchtime Q & A with Mary Means to utilize her insight and experience to strengthen our own work
- Building confidence in your stakeholders, funders and partners that your organization has the ability to be a leader in economic revitalization work.
- Engaging with your community and stakeholders to build confidence in returning to your districts to shop, play, and do business.
Friday, March 12: The second day of the conference will feature a keynote address as well as sessions focused on the following:
- Ensuring our community members and district stakeholders are able to comfortably interact in the physical space of our districts
- Maintaining confidence on our MainStreets: stories from business owners who have persevered to stay open, pivoted, reopened, or launched during these uncertain times
- And more sessions and speakers!
MainStreet and Arts & Cultural District staff, board members and volunteers should register NOW for the FREE 2021 NMMS Virtual Winter Conference, Friday, March 5, and Friday, March 12. Starting Monday, February 15, registration will open up to the general public to register for the conference as well.
