Lea Community Foundation for the Arts (LFCA) announces the much-anticipated re-opening of the Historic Lea Theatre in downtown Lovington. The first official movie showing will be Friday, October 30 at 7 pm. LCFA will be hosting “Halloweekend” in conjunction with Lovington MainStreet’s Halloween On the Plaza event. During this time, the Lea Theatre will feature the hit animated movie Hotel Transylvania 2 in 3D. Showtimes will be Friday at 7 pm; Saturday at 2 pm and again at 7 pm; and Sunday at 3 pm and 7 pm.
“We are very excited to show the community our newly upgraded theater equipment,” says Connie Sevier, Lea Community Foundation for the Arts President. “The Lea Theatre now has state-of-the-art digital surround sound, as well as a new screen and digital projection with 3D capability!” The Lea Community Foundation for the Arts has been working very hard to secure contracts with all of the major motion picture companies, in order to bring highly-desired blockbuster movies to the community.
Tabatha Lawson, Lovington MainStreet Executive Director and LCFA Secretary says “We are really happy to be re-opening this landmark cinema. This is a great anchor business downtown and will offer much-needed entertainment options for our community.”
The Lea Theatre is currently owned by the City of Lovington and is being operated by Lea Community Foundation for the Arts. LCFA, with support from Lovington MainStreet, New Mexico MainStreet and the Economic Development Department, is working on the continued restoration of the historic theater with support through the state’s Historic Theaters Initiative.
