Serf Theater

The historic Serf Theater Hall (the name is an acronym of the names of the original owner’s children) in Las Vegas, NM was built in 1937 and operated for decades as a successful entertainment venue before closing in the 2000s. Recently, local business owners Charlotte and Jonathan Moore purchased the building block and renovated the theater, which reopened Aug. 2, 2014. Work included major aspects like leveling the floor and putting in ADA-accessible bathrooms. As a preservation project, efforts were made to salvage the original seats when possible, and murals depicting the Santa Fe Trail and the conquistadores that have been damaged by years of leaking roofs are intended for professional restoration in the future. The venue has seen several events already, and hopes to become a destination for music tours and other functions.
