Businesses in MainStreet districts include a wide variety of services, retail and restaurants. Each of those is owned and operated by a small business owner who also lives in that community. These are what we like to call “homegrown businesses!”
These business owners pay taxes that support local government and projects; donate to schools and charities; support downtown events and activities; and work long hours to support their families.
They are the backbone of MainStreet districts.
The purpose of the Shop MainStreet – We’re Homegrown Campaign is to support these businesses and encourage our communities to patronize these businesses.
Did you know that for every $100 spent in a locally owned business $68 circulates and stays within your community?
That means money for your community’s safety and infrastructure.
That means money to pay police, fire, emergency services, teachers and other essential jobs.
Small business owners are also more likely to support other small business owners and create a cycle of spending that enriches the small businesses in your community.
These are good things for your community and for your MainStreet District. So, as you head out to do some spring shopping. Think local and Shop MainStreet!
